What Is Paella?

Most of the people order a very common Spanish dish when they check in a Spanish restaurant. This Spanish dish is known as Paella. It is the most popular rice in Spain. Now the question is what is the specialty of this food? Saffron and rice are the main ingredients of this dish. Saffron gives an orange color. Calasparra and Bomba rice are generally used to make this dish. Basically, Bomba is short-grain rice which is farmed in the eastern regions of Spain. This rice can easily absorb liquid very well. Preparing Paella in a traditional way is quite difficult. It can be cooked in two different methods. First one is the traditional method and another one is a speedy method. Let’s take a closer look at Paella.

Traditional vegetable Paella:

If you would like to prepare vegetable Paella traditionally then check out the following recipe. Common ingredients are:

• 200gm Bomba rice
• 1 finely chopped onion
• 2 tbsp olive oil
• 5 finely chopped garlic,
• 2 tsp paprika
• 1 tsp chilli powder
• 100g sliced mushrooms
• 3 tsp tomato puree
• 400ml vegetable stock
• 1 pinch turmeric
• 1 handful coriander leaves (Finely chopped)
• Salt

Preparation:

Firstly, heat a certain amount of oil in a frying pan and then fry the garlic and onions properly. Now, mix with the paprika, turmeric, and chilli powder carefully. After that add 3 tsp tomato puree and mix properly in the sliced mushrooms. Now add them in the rice and pour in the vegetable stock. After that boil it for 12 minutes. Now the Paella is ready. You can serve it with some sauteed mushrooms and coriander leaves.

Speedy Paella:

Preparing Speedy Paella is comparatively easy as compared to the traditional Paella. In Barangaroo, many Spanish food restaurants prepare this dish. Common ingredients are:

• 1 tray Bomba rice
• 1 tbsp olive oil
• 100g peas
• 1 medium thinly sliced onion
• 1 sliced red pepper
• 1 finely chopped green pepper
• 3 crushed garlic cloves
• 110g cubed sausage
• 230g tomatoes (Finely chopped)
• 150ml fish stock
• 450g sea foods (fish, squid and prawns)
• 100ml white wine

Preparation:

At first, oil is heated in a big pan and then the sliced peppers, onion, peas and sausage are cooked for 3 minutes. After that, in the tomatoes and garlic are added and cooked again for 2 minutes. Now, white wine, seafood and fish stocks are mixed properly and then the rice is added with them. After cooking, the delicious Paella is ready to serve.
